Employee engagement ‘key factor in staff retention’
High employee engagement is a key issue in maintaining good levels of staff retention within UK firms according to the CIPD.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is suggesting that being an approachable boss is vital in keeping employees happy.
Bosses at the organisation believe there is not one specific way to achieve good employee engagement, but it is important for companies to take measures to make workers feel wanted and appreciated.
CIPD employee relations advisor Mike Emmott highlighted positive staff interaction techniques adopted by Standard Chartered, which operates a 'know me, focus me, care about me, inspire me' policy among its staff.
"Although the recession has increased feelings of employee insecurity, younger workers in particular are more demanding about what they feel they are entitled to expect from their job," he remarked.
This comes after findings from first direct showed that workers are willing to switch jobs in order to feel wanted.
It discovered that 28 per cent of survey respondents had moved to a new firm in order to find their employer of choice.
